Top 10 of 2016: Best Books I’ve Read in 2016

Welcome to day one of the Top 10 of 2016 event! Today I will be sharing the Best Books I've Read in 2016. I didn't read very many books this year, so I wasn't sure I wanted to participate, but I couldn't miss out on the fun! I do wish I was able to read more the last 12 months, but there's always next year, right?  Anyway, without further ado, here are my favorite books read this year (in no particular order):

Blog Tour: A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig

A Boy Called Christmas
by Matt Haig
Published: 1 November 2016
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Pages: 240
Formats: Hardcover
Age Level: Middle Grade (ages 8-12)
Source: Provided by Publisher
My Rating: 4/5!
Before there was Santa Claus, there was a young boy who believed in the impossible. . . . Lemony Snicket meets Elf in this warmhearted Christmas caper.

Eleven-year-old Nikolas—nicknamed “Christmas”—has received only one toy in his life: a doll carved out of a turnip. But he’s happy with his turnip doll, because it came from his parents, who love him. Then one day his father goes missing, and Nikolas must travel to the North Pole to save him.

Along the way, Nikolas befriends a surly reindeer, bests a troublesome troll, and discovers a hidden world of enchantment in the frozen village of Elfhelm. But the elves of Elfhelm have troubles of their own: Christmas spirit and goodwill are at an all-time low, and Nikolas may be the only person who can fix things—if only he can reach his father before it’s too late. . . .

Sparkling with wit and warmth, A Boy Called Christmas is a cheeky new Christmas classic-in-the-making from acclaimed author Matt Haig and illustrator Chris Mould.

4 Year Anniversary Celebration! (+ updated giveaway!)

Greetings lovely readers! On December 1st, 4 years ago, I launched She Dreams in Fiction. Can you believe it has been 4 years since I started this lovely little blog? I know it has been quiet around here the last couple years, but I am still reading and blogging, so thank you for sticking around. You are positively spectacular!

Quite a lot has happened in these last 4 years. I have learned a few things during this time, one being it is okay to take a break from something, even something you love. I have learned to listen to myself better and focus on things that help me to improve myself and be happy. One thing I have been focusing on this year in particular is reading for pleasure again. In previous years, I felt a lot of pressure to review EVERY SINGLE BOOK I read. Why? Why must this be a thing? Well, I decided it didn't need to be and just started reading. This exercise has proven to be most excellent. Happiness has a way of showing up even in the most difficult of times.

Anyway, to celebrate this 4 years of bookish awesomeness, I thought I would have a giveaway! The giveaway will run through the rest of the month of December, so spread the news! Share the love! Get those bookish family and friends of yours to stop by and enter!

What will I be giving away, you may ask? Well, I thought it would be nice to offer one lucky reader their pick from a list of my favorite books in the last 4 years! Oh my goodness, it was terribly difficult to narrow the list down to one book read per year, let me tell you! This giveaway is open to international readers as well, just make sure the Book Depository ships to your country.

Review: Watched by Marina Budhos

Watched
by Marina Budhos
Published: 13 September 2016
Publisher: Wendy Lamb Books
Pages: 336
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Age Level: 12 and up
Source: Hardcover provided by Random House Children's Books in exchange for an honest review
Rating: 3.5/5!
Marina Budhos’s extraordinary and timely novel examines what it’s like to grow up under surveillance, something many Americans experience and most Muslim Americans know.

Naeem is far from the “model teen.” Moving fast in his immigrant neighborhood in Queens is the only way he can outrun the eyes of his hardworking Bangladeshi parents and their gossipy neighbors. Even worse, they’re not the only ones watching. Cameras on poles. Mosques infiltrated. Everyone knows: Be careful what you say and who you say it to. Anyone might be a watcher.

Naeem thinks he can charm his way through anything, until his mistakes catch up with him and the cops offer a dark deal. Naeem sees a way to be a hero—a protector—like the guys in his brother’s comic books. Yet what is a hero? What is a traitor? And where does Naeem belong?

Acclaimed author Marina Budhos delivers a riveting story that’s as vivid and involving as today’s headlines.

It's Alive!

Greetings my lovelies!

I have been made aware that my unexpected hiatus from blogging was much more extended than I originally thought. There have been a lot of changes in my life, good and bad, that I had to work through and get used to, making it that much more difficult to read and blog. I have lost people and pets, gained a second job (and a 6 day work week), suffered heartbreak, discovered my social side, had health issues, adopted an orphaned cat, etc etc. BUT I think I'm once again in a good place to start anew and get back into this wonderful world of book blogging! I have really missed all of this so much and I am insanely happy to get started again.

To celebrate my return, I've decided to hold a giveaway! This is mostly a way to thank all those who have stuck around whilst I did my great disappearing act. I mean, I have been reading and using social media periodically, but still. I'm sorry for that disappearing thing...
