Ungifted by Kelly Oram
ebook: 342 pages
Publisher: Bluefields
Expected Publication: March 2014
Age Level: Young Adult
Source: eARC provided by author
Even though her father is running for President of the United States, Grace St. Claire is as normal a girl as they come. She’s clumsy, shy, and an outcast among her peers. She even manages to nearly die in a freak accident in front of the entire school. But when Grace survives a vampire attack she quickly learns that she is anything but ordinary.

There’s something about human Grace that has all the supernaturals around her going crazy. Her best friend’s brother suddenly wants to date her. Her worst enemy has sworn to protect her even against her wishes. Someone with very powerful magic wants her dead, and the vampire that attacked her has developed an obsession with making her his eternal mate.

In order to survive—and not as Count Dracula’s undead bride—Grace dives head first into the terrifying world of the supernatural. She teams up with a charming but mysterious warlock who strolled into town causing trouble and spouting stories of a Prophesy and Chosen One that looks exactly like Grace. Together they must figure out why Grace is different, who wants her dead, how she’s connected to the Chosen One, and who they can really trust.

This book is so good! I can always tell it's a good book if I either want to flip the pages back to the beginning and start reading again or simply don't want the story to end. Ungifted was definitely a book that, after I finished the last sentence, I just wanted more and more! I loved it and the main character, Grace, so much and I can't wait for book three!

Right off the bat, I knew I was going to like Grace. She's smart, shy, caring and a total klutz. I couldn't believe how horribly everyone at her school treats her. I know her father is running to be the next President of the United States, but that still doesn't give them the right to call her Disgrace! She puts up with it, too! Even her Dad treats her like an obligation more than a daughter he loves and cherishes. I just can't believe she takes it all on the chin like that every single day. From the beginning I felt that Grace was amazing and someone stronger than anyone gave her credit for... including herself. It takes a lot of strength and courage to ignore all the crap people sling at you, and Grace does it like a pro. She has her best friend, Cynthia, and she knows who she is and that's perfectly fine with Grace. But then she is introduced to the supernatural world when she is attacked by an obsessed vampire! Not only that, but she's saved by a boy with wings and two werewolves. Talk about a crash course into the supernatural!

Speaking of Cynthia, I really like her too and I am glad we get to see a fair amount of her. She's fun, feisty and a fierce friend. She may be a little misguided in the whole boy department when it comes to Grace, but she means well. She wants Grace to be happy and has no problem trying to find ways to make that happen. One character we get to see a lot of is Ethan. He is seriously good looking and always seems to be rescuing Grace. I'll admit, I wasn't so fond of him at first. He seemed like he wanted nothing more than to be far away from Grace. He has no patience for her and gets grumpy and irritated with her over the tiniest things. I can totally see why Grace is so frustrated with him, as he's quite awful to her. It's not like she asked him to keep saving her or anything. So Ethan is a bit difficult to like at first, but he really starts to grow on you. Along with Cynthia, we also get to meet a couple of her brothers. Her oldest brother, Preston, is definitely one of my favorites. I wish we could have seen more of him, but the scenes in which he was involved were great. Well, most of them; some scenes just weren't pleasant, period. I really like a lot of the new characters to the series, but I was quite happy to see Russ show up again in this novel! I wasn't so fond of him in the first book, but not only do I like him more now, I'm happy we get to see more of him. I was kind of hoping to see Dani and Gabriel again, but this story really does belong to Grace. I'm sure we'll see all our favorite people in the next installment of the series.

This story definitely has a different feel to Dani's, but I really liked that. In fact, if asked which one was my favorite, I would absolutely say this one. I related better to Grace than Dani and I liked all the supporting characters better. There were a lot of funny moments, but also some seriously intense ones and ones that make you want to bawl your eyes out. I also liked the pacing of this one better. Again, you can tell I loved it because I didn't want it to end! All in all, Ungifted is a fantastic sequel in a captivating series. I know I must be patient, but I can't wait to return to this wonderfully intriguing world Kelly has created! If you've yet to read this series, I highly recommend it. It's action-packed, funny, suspenseful, thrilling, and full of real characters and emotions. So go spoil yourself and buy this series. You're going to love it!

A Favorite Quote: "The stranger's kiss had [my heart] racing so fast it was in danger of giving out. On the bright side, if he was trying to end my life, death by super, fantastic, amazing, epic kiss has to be the best way to go."

Kelly Oram wrote her first novel at age fifteen–a fan fiction about her favorite music group, The Backstreet Boys, for which family and friends still tease her.
